Vocaloid - IA - 1/8 (Aquamarine)
Posted by admin
Meet IA, the Vocaloid in her airy black top and pink skirt, floating with a cascade of very long hair behind her. This 1/8 figure by Aquamarine (released 30 May 2013) is simple, but I really like it, and I think it is the first IA figure I have owned (´∀`)♡
A pose from the original art
IA is a very underrated Vocaloid in my opinion. Not much merchandise exists for her, and I believe only two figures of her were ever made. That makes this one feel even more special to me (≧▽≦)
I think the pose of this figure is based on IA's original visual, the illustration by Akasaka Aka-sensei shown here (the illustration is theirs, not mine). The same open arms, the same floating feeling and the same sweep of long hair are all there. Seeing the figure next to the art, it feels like a faithful 3D take on it.
Minimal, with lovely hair
The figure itself is quite minimalistic, and I like that. The pose is nice, and the sculpt of her hair is my favourite part.
Her hair has a nice amount of detail: it is not too strandy and it does not clump up. It flows well from the top of her head all the way down the long trail behind her. My one wish is the colour. The hair is quite similar to the skin tone, and I would have loved it a bit more whitish, with a touch more of the pink accent (¬‿¬)
Details worth zooming in on
The base is just as simple as the rest of the figure: plain white with "IA" printed on it. It is clean and fits the minimal feel, even if there is nothing fancy about it.
Cons
The only thing that disappointed me is a small defect in her hair. I am not sure if it is just my copy, but it is not very noticeable and you need to look from a close distance to see it (；´Д`)
This close-up shows it: a small blemish on a lock of hair above her eye. For just displaying her, I do not think it will be visible at all.
Final thoughts
A minimalistic IA with a pose true to the original art, nicely detailed hair and a plain white base. I just wish the hair were a bit whiter with more pink, but she is still a lovely figure for an underrated Vocaloid (´∀`)♡
